Basic Templates

General Person (0):

Almost all people will have at least the following skills as part of functioning in any society. You should only leave these off if you are intentionally creating a character who doesn't have a 'life'. This effect can also be achieved by giving these skills odd values:

one skill from hobbies
one skill from travel
Current Affairs IQ+2
(pick from: regional, sports, tech, pop culture, business, headline news, high culture, office politics)

Pick one or two negative trait types and take -1 in them.

Adventurer (3)

Some skills are just things any adventurer needs. Many legitimate characters will lack skills on this list, but they are not rounded adventurers.

1 general combat skill set (2)
1 movement skill set (1)
1 social skill set (1)
1 of the skill sets listed above

-1 from Heroic or Motivation negative trait lists

Back Grounds:

Characters have to come from somewhere. Each character should have a background. A few characters types should have two, such as the military officer is both a soldier and a noble.

Farmer(1):
a classic throughout time, this includes anyone who farms the land with their own hands and herds as well. It does not include rich planters, who count as nobles.
    Agriculture Skill set
Soldier(1):
Soldiers are members of an organized military. They are used to structure, chain of command, and working in a group. A warrior who is not a member of an army is likely to use the street-rat, noble, or primitive background. A Roman solider uses this background, an Iroquois brave does not.
    Combat Support Skill Set
Noble (2):
Noble is anyone who makes their living off of managing others. It has different connotations at different times in history, but the basic skill set is the same. Tribal Chiefs, Feudal lords, and Corporate middle managers should all use this background.
    +1 Status
    Social Skill set
    Management Skill set
    -.5 in decision traits
Enabled (1):
Some people spend their time just living life. Where they get their money from is up for debate, but they certainly don't seem to lack for it. This includes some of the nobility and many high tech people (who generally have another background to get this money with)
    +1 Status
   Hobby Skill Set
    -.5 in decision traits
Service (1):
You perform services for another person or people. This includes Tour guides, Sales people, Cooks, Janitors, Customer Service Representatives, Scribes, and Receptionists. You grease the wheels of other folks so they can live more comfortable lives. While this includes some basic skills, the main component is the ability to work with others.
    Domestic Skill Set
Merchant (1):
You make your living by managing goods and money (as opposed to managing people  -- a noble, or merely moving the goods --a freighter). You are skilled in all things economic. It is quite common for a merchant to have an additional background, including noble, scholar, Craftsman, and Freighter.
    Finance Skill Set
Craftsman (1)
You make stuff. Or you make plans to make stuff. Craftsmen range from iron smiths to programmers to car repairman. If you have very formal training, you are a scholar was well (eg, an aerospace engineer).
Crafter Skill Set OR Computer Wiz Skill Set
Scholar (1)
You are well educated in the ways of science and scholarship. This background includes sages and professors, but also college students, apprentice wizards, and state priests.
    Expert Skill Set
Street-rat (1)
You make your living scraping by in the city. While you may not be a criminal yourself, you certainly know your way around them, and you don't really have a solid profession.
    Criminal Skill Set
Primitive (2)
You life off the land, hunting, fishing, and gathering. This is a very common background for low tech cultures, but it also includes trappers, hermits, and explorers of new lands.
    Outdoors Skill Set
    Movement Skill Set
Freighter (1)
You make your living by moving goods from place to place. You are not adept at selling the goods, merely moving them. This includes sailors, camel drivers, and truck drivers.
     Transportation Skill set

Technology and Magic:

Every character should take a set of these trait to reflect what kind of society they grew up in. Even a Demon from hell has a base tech level -- though what it is depends on the details of the hell he is from!

The Knowledge Keeper has a MUCH lower cost than the other templates. It's highly recommended that a supernatural or gadgeteer lenses or heavy modification along the lines of one of the other templates be included. Its also recommended that you consider buying another lens and adding knowledge keeper traits to it.
