Burning Terror

Burning Terrors are undead with control over fire and a taste for the fear of others. Their flesh is charred black and shriveled, yet holds together. Their voices are raspy and sound like they've been screaming too much. They can wreathe themselves in flames at a moments notice. they feed off of fear and have a dramatic streak a mile wide. As they gain sustenance only from fear rather than death, they terrorize their victims for as long as possible: quickly killing their victims quickly is distinctly inefficient.

One of a burning terror's greatest advantages is its ability to read the minds of those around it. This is instinctive, reflexive, and allows them to not only feed on fear but to anticipate opponent's actions and pinpoint their location. It will usually play with its prey using this ability .

In combat a burning terror attempts to light as much as possible on fire: it is healed by the fire, while its foes are injured. It then close the distance between it and individual  opponents and hold them down for the flames to kill. If it cannot achieve this, it will flee or parley (though the odds are if it could flee in the first place it would already have done so).

When hunting prey terrors prefer to trap their victims in a building and kill them one by one. It may do this with flame, or with mundane methods.

Burning Terrors can walk about in the day, but struggle to disguise themselves: their faces, necks, arms, and hands are too badly burned. They typically completely wrap themselves up. Disguise is almost never used: it takes far too much effort and typically gets destroyed when they turn on their flames.

It is unknown how a burning terror is created. Some claim that the creatures are the result of when a serial arsonist dies in a fire. Others believe that the reproduce in a manner similar to vampires, and a victim killed entirely by the aura or some other intentional method become new burning terrors. Some have even suggested the creatures are the intentional result of powerful magic. Which and if any of these are true is left to the GM.

Burning terrors are often a symptom of a bigger problem in the surrounding area: they do not need to cause the terror they feed on themselves, and so often follow more powerful creatures around, either as minions or scavengers.
